L.E.A.D. Successful Transitions

CARING & CONNECTED Communities

The L.E.A.D. Transitions program will provide students with the tools to be active participants in school and community, while also making positive connections with their elementary and secondary peers through school-based awareness and empowerment activities and events.
LEADERSHIP EMPOWERMENT AWARENESS DEVELOPMENT

What

We Do

Following a series of CONNECTIONS with the school, the program begins with the application and selection of STUDENT LEADERS. Once identified, these L.E.A.D. MENTORS complete the initial TRAINING and EMPOWERMENT sessions. The first major event is a KICK-OFF - WELCOMING ORIENTATION for the incoming grade 9 students. The program continues throughout the school year with strategically scheduled SUCCESSFUL LIVING AND LEARNING activities, complemented with a creative collection of engaging SPECIAL AND SOCIAL EVENTS facilitated by L.E.A.D. Mentors.

The L.E.A.D. Transitions program will effectively support SUCCESSFUL TRANSITIONS and prepare students (mentors and mentees) with LIFE SKILLS to lead and succeed through to graduation and beyond.

COORDINATION MEETINGS

This series of meetings & planning sessions allows school administrators and staff the opportunity to provide the necessary input while we make the necessary adjustments and individualize the program.

MENTOR TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

These interactive workshops are full of fun leadership and team building activities and assist students in the development of key skills and competencies required to effectively mentor new students.

KICKOFF ORIENTATION EVENT

The next step is a one-day KickOff Orientation event designed to introduce students to the program, while encouraging and providing the opportunity for the establishment of positive group dynamics and introducing them to their mentors.

SOCIAL & SPECIAL EVENTS (SSE)

SSE activities are designed to actively engage students in a fun and social environment, while promoting the establishment of positive relations with their peers and mentors. Get Up & Get Active events are designed to promote active participation, and provide an opportunity to explore a variety of interests, while developing confidence and positive self-esteem.

SUCCESSFUL LIVING & LEARNING (SLL)

These developmental activities are designed to provide students with continued reinforcement of local values and can include educational social/emotional activities, academic follow-ups and supports, as well as general informational sessions. Awareness activities will teach life skills, and assist youth in establishing a strong values base, while applying enhanced knowledge in related decision making strategies.
